Entertaining Win In Sunshine

Kenfig Hill 2nds took on Waunarlwydd in an entertaining friendly at Croft Goch. Both sides are having a successful season and were able to field strong squads. Waunarlwydd looked like they would have the upper hand in the forwards with a formidable front five but the smaller Kenfig Hill pack were able to hold their own in the scrum. However, it was Kenfig Hill who opened the scoring with winger Lewis Rees going over in the corner which was converted by Jac Briggs. Waunarlwydd came straight back scoring from a driving lineout but the conversion was missed. Kenfig Hill scored again as centre Matthew Burnell found his way through the midfield to score under the posts which Briggs again converted. Waunarlwydd responded almost immediately scoring from another driving maul following several forward drives to leave the half time score 14-10 to Kenfig Hill. The 2nd half was an entertaining half of running rugby with both sides trying to run the ball at every opportunity. It started immediately from the kick off with youth flanker Danny Morelli making his first start for the seniors taking the ball from the kick off and setting off on a mazy run brushing off tacklers before finally offloading the ball to Aaron Grabham to score under the posts. Kenfig Hill were managing to find space in all areas of the pitch and scored two more trys to move into a comfortable lead. Waunarlwydd were not finished and scored two quick trys in the last 10 minutes to take them to within one score with time still left. As they were trying to run the ball from their own 22 then youth winger Ceejay Sharpe couldn't believe his luck as he was passed the ball by the Waunarlwydd winger and had an unopposed run into the line. There was still time for the kick off and Kenfig Hill moved the ball straight away to the wing and Aaron Grabham took advantage of the tiring defence to streak down the wing to score in the corner to make the final score a slightly flattering 42-23 to Kenfig Hill. Kenfig Hill now move onto the district cup final next week against Bridgend Athletic to be played at Cefn Cribbwr with a 3pm kick off.
