Kenfig Hill took on Llanharan in a Mid Glamorgan district league top of the table clash at the Welfare Ground in Llanharan. It was Llanharan who were quickest out of the blocks as they took control of possession in lineouts and in the loose. Kenfig Hill had hardly touched the ball when Llanharan went over for the first try after 10minutes. Llanharan kept up the pressure with some good handling from their backs and scored again to go 12-0 up. Kenfig Hill gradually fought their way back into the game with forwards and backs putting pressure on Llanharan however, Llanharan broke away again to score another converted try as well as slotting a penalty to move 22-0 in front with 10minutes still to go in the first half. However, Kenfig Hill finally managed to string some phases together close to the Llanharan line and Alun Brace cut through on an inside angle to score under the posts on the stroke of half time to give Kenfig Hill some hope. The first score in the 2nd half was always going to be key and Joe Williams duly obliged going over from close range after forwards again exerted pressure on the Llanharan line. It was Kenfig Hill who were on top now and after forwards were again held up over the line No. 8 Ryan Jenkins scored from the resulting 5m scrum. Kicker Dale Smith was on fine form kicking all 3 conversions as well as a subsequent penalty as Kenfig Hill finally moved 24-22 in front as the game moved into the final 10minutes. As Llanharan pressed the line then Kenfig Hill conceeded a penalty which Llanharan kicked to move in front 25-24. From the restart then Kenfig Hill gained a penalty of their own, however, the otherwise excellent Dale Smith foot slipped on the run up and the penalty scuffed wide. A great 2nd half comeback from Kenfig Hill which almost succeeded however, players deserve great credit for sticking together with several players having to play out of position against a good Llanharan side.
